Moving Checklist

We know that prior planning is key to a thorough and successful moving experience. Relocation can be a stressful time, and it's easy to miss a step. That's why we've provided our comprehensive moving checklist to make sure that you start, and end, your moving experience the right way.

Four Weeks Before Move

  1. 1. Tour your home and decide which items should be discarded, sold or donated to charity.
  2. 2. Contact physicians and specialists and notify them of your move. Ask them if they have any recommendations for practices near your new home. If you have renewable prescriptions, make sure to pick up a copy so you don't miss a dose.
  3. 3. Transfer any educational records to new schools.
  4. 4. Check homeowner's insurance to see if relocation is covered, and transfer coverage to your new home.
  5. 5. Schedule transfer of all personal insurance records.

Three Weeks Before Move

  1. 1. Plan to use up most of your food items before the move.
  2. 2. Check and clear tax assessments.
  3. 3. Confirm transfer of educational records.
  4. 4. Schedule appliance maintenance.
  5. 5. Use or sell flammable items or ammunition. A. Arnold can't relocate these items.
  6. 6. Arrange for pets to be moved if they are unable to travel with you. A. Arnold can help with service recommendations on request.
  7. 7. Pick up change-of-address forms from your local Post Office.

Two Weeks Before Move

  1. 1. Decide which items you will pack and which items A. Arnold will be packing. We can provide packing materials at reasonable prices.
  2. 2. Close or transfer any charge accounts.
  3. 3. Return library books and other locally borrowed items.
  4. 4. Collect loaned items and any items you may have in public storage.
  5. 5. Arrange to discontinue utilities and other locally provided subscription services, such as newspaper delivery and lawn care.
  6. 6. Schedule connection of utilities in your new home.
  7. 7. Draw a floor plan of your new home and indicate the placement of furnishings.
  8. 8. Service satellite dishes, antennas and other outdoor electronic items. A. Arnold's Customer Service Center is happy to offer service recommendations.

One Week Before Move

  1. 1. Transfer bank accounts.
  2. 2. Ask your local credit bureau to transfer your records to your new city.
  3. 3. Confirm travel reservations, if applicable.
  4. 4. Arrange to have cash, certified check or money order ready to pay your van operator before goods are unloaded, unless your services have been prepaid or billed.
  5. 5. Set aside maps, games, snacks and any other items to be taken in your car if you're driving to your new home.
  6. 6. Contact your phone company about disconnecting service at your current home and setting up service at your new residence.
  7. 7. Start packing suitcases.
  8. 8. Make a checklist of important or valuable items and documents that need to be sure to come with you.
  9. 9. Double-check service dates of your move with A. Arnold's Customer Service Center. Keep Hotline card ready.
  10. 10. Drain gas from lawn mowers, and water from lawn and garden hoses.

Day Before Move

  1. 1. Put cleaning supplies, toiletries and coffee pot in separate box to be loaded last and unloaded first.
  2. 2. Finish packing all suitcases.
  3. 3. Defrost, clean and dry empty refrigerator.

Moving Day

  1. 1. Be available all day to answer questions, accompany van operator during inventory, sign bill of lading and confirm your new address.
  2. 2. Confirm delivery date.
  3. 3. Make final check of all rooms and storage areas.
  4. 4. Lock all windows and doors, and make sure keys are transferred and lights are out.

Moving In

  1. 1. Plan to arrive a day ahead of A. Arnold. This will give you time to ensure that utilities are connected.
  2. 2. Double-check your furnishing floor plan, and make any changes you feel are necessary.
